Carve out some good times…

Bride and Groom at Middleton Lodge Holding pumpkins over their faces.

At this time of year, I usually find myself (and I can’t be alone) grumping about Halloween and what a scam it has become, but I finally get it. In the busy hullabaloo of daily life we all need something to look forward to, whether it’s a summer holiday, a birthday celebration, Christmas time shenanigans, or the newly included Halloween – a time to dress up, dress the house, invite friends round for a frightfully good time.

A young couple sitting face to face at their dining room table armed with a carving kit and a pumpkin each, they each create a scary masterpiece which is then judged by friends on facebook and instagram. The champion pumpkin carver is the one with the most social media likes, we all love an instagram heart and a facebook like… This bride and groom to be get married at the end of the week and they thought wedding plans would get in the way of their carve up, but designing, carving and being judged by friends has now become a tradition. So from the darkness to the light, they left my studio and headed home to start carving. I’ll find out who won on Thursday.

I read a quote which said, ‘A person needs just three things to be truly happy in this world: someone to love, something to do and something to look forward to.’

Have a spooktacular good time…
