Blog Questions Chris (the groom)

How long have you known each other?

Far far far too long. Ahem…. I mean I think maybe 5 years???
How did you meet?

She stalked me at work 🙂 admittedly she thought I was arrogant and didn’t like me. But she eventually came around – and begged me to take her out ?
Can you share your proposal story?

Wow! How long have you got.  I opened a kinder egg and put the ring inside. Sealed it all back up and took her to her favourite restaurant the crab and lobster. Before going for the meal we walked through the lovely gardens and I found a nice spot and asked her to sit down with me – she refused because she wanted to get inside and get a drink. Then after the PAINSTAKINGLY long drink we walked back through the gardens. She stormed off because it was spitting. I sat down near the fountain and asked her to come back, but she refused. I had to tempt her back with the chocolate. She eventually RELUCTANTLY did come back, just got the egg. She sat and pondered life whilst slowly eating the tiny bit of chocolate on one of those eggs. When she eventually got to the ring, I was down on one knee and asked her to marry me. She bit the ring, asked if it was real. Then rang her Mam. To this day she still hasn’t said yes…..
Which venues did you view before you settled on Your venue?

A few, but we both fell in love with Middleton lodge as soon as we saw it.
What was the best moment of your day?

The second I finished my speech, because I could just relax after that.

But I be soppy I should say when I saw Lucy get to the top of the aisle at the church – even though we both started laughing.
What would your dream wedding breakfast menu be? Starter/Main/Desert?

Starter – a small eggs benedict

Main – either a parmo ( ?) orrrrr pizza buffet.

Desert – cheese board
Would you change anything about your day if you could do it again?

I’d calm down and not worry about the speech, then just have a laugh through it.
Do you feel any different now you’re married?

No. She’s always been the boss. Nothing’s changed.
How’s married life?

Just the same as before, but now she owns everything. And I have to wear a ring.
Have you got a wedding top tip?

Enjoy it. Sounds stupid but it’s easy to get lost in all the stress of the day. What’s the point. If it goes wrong – laugh about it. Helps makes the stories better.
Invite one more guest alive or dead, can be a celebrity or someone you know, who would it be and why?

Either – Charline Theron – does it need an explanation??

Or Tom hardy. Because she’d likely run away with him and my day would have been just a party getting drunk.
Is there one song that reminds you of your wedding day?

Love you til the end – the pogues. It was our first dance. I’ll never admit it to her face but it was nice.
On your wedding day what time did you go to bed?

Ermmmmmmmmm. About half 2 in the morning. One or two glasses of whisky turned into us drinking the full bottle. I was quite rough the next morning.
Which is your favourite Gary Walsh wedding photograph and why?

Either the one of us in the door way with the tree or Lucy holding the lights outside.

Cheers, Gary…

 Blog Questions  Lucy(the bride)

How long have you known each other?

Im not entirely sure! I think it could be 5 years?!

How did you meet?

We first met at Hartlepool police station (Chris is a police officer and I was a special constable at the time). I didn’t like Chris very much when I was first introduced to him, I actually thought he was arrogant. We eventually ended up being crewed together and my opinion of him totally changed. If I remember correctly I spent most of the night telling him how bad his taste in women was …. ha!. not long after this my previous relationship ended and I told Chris  he could take me out if he wanted to……. obviously he jumped at the chance hahaha!

Can you share your proposal story?

Chris took me for a night away at the crab and lobster for a late Valentines treat. When we arrived he asked me if I fancied a walk around the grounds. I thought this was odd…. As he has never asked me to go for a walk….ever! He kept asking me to sit down on various benches and I was more interested in going to the bar for a drink. Obviously I got my own way! So Chris had to nervously drink a pint until I decided we should go back to the room. On the way back to the hotel Chris sat down by a pond….. it was starting to rain so I wasn’t amused and wanted to go up to the room. It was then Chris produced a kinder egg (he knows how to get my attention!) so I did as he asked and sat with him by the pond. According to Chris I have never taken so long to eat chocolate . He told me to open the little toy container and inside it was a beautiful, sparkling diamond ring! Chris got down on one knee and asked me to marry him. I replied with ‘is it real?’, ‘have you asked my dads permission?’, ‘have you asked my mams permission?’ and then rang my mam and Lauren my best friend….. all the while Chris was still on one knee and to this day I still haven’t actually said ‘yes’.

Which venues did you view before you settled on Your venue?

We visited Wynyard hall and Crathorne hall but Middleton Lodge absolutely blew us all away.

What was the best moment of your day?

what a difficult question!! I have so many favourite moments!! I think my most favourite is walking down the aisle with my dad towards Chris. I thought I would hate being the centre of attention, but I loved every second of that walk. I couldn’t believe how many guests were there! and the church looked beautiful.

What would your dream wedding breakfast menu be? Starter/Main/Desert?

I’m a big seafood lover so I would probably choose mussels in white wine sauce to start, maybe a parmo with garlic sauce as a main and finish off with warm chocolate fudge cake with ice cream.

Would you change anything about your day if you could do it again?

I would make sure I got a mini burger and beer canapé as I was too busy mingling! I’m still upset about that! Other than that…. No. it was a perfect wedding ceremony followed by a Christmas party with all of our nearest and dearest.

Do you feel any different now you’re married?

I felt really old when my bank card came back with ‘Mrs’ on it instead of ‘Miss’…. But apart from that I don’t feel much difference at all. I think Chris is still getting used to his wedding ring though. he actually forgot to put his ring back on after a shower on his first day back at work…. I got a text telling me he had left it on top of the toilet… charming!!

How’s married life?

still the same as before, with the added addition of our new puppy. we both annoy each other at times and Chris still thinks he comes below the dogs in the house pecking order (he could actually be right, but don’t tell him!).

Have you got a wedding top tip?

Don’t stress!! I made sure that I stayed relaxed, I spent most of my wedding morning in bed with a bowl of fruit and glass of fizz, watching the girls get their hair and make up done. I was able to take everything in and had a really lovely morning with my girls.

Invite one more guest alive or dead, can be a celebrity or someone you know, who would it be and why?

I’m very tempted to say Tom Hardy….. but can I cheat and say both my dogs?? We have had louis for 3 years and have never left him with anyone but my mam and dad…. I cried when I had to leave him with a friend for the weekend. Then Chris surprised me with the best wedding gift ever….. a puppy!! Named Tommy Shelby – peaky blinders is my favourite tv programme, so this puppy was meant for me! we picked Louis and Tommy up the day after the wedding and we have been a family of four ever since.

Is there one song that reminds you of your wedding day?

proud Mary – Tina turner is definitely our wedding anthem. It got everyone onto the dance floor showing off their best Tina impressions. Hilarious!

On your wedding day what time did you go to bed?

I think we went to bed about 3am. Myself and my bridesmaids were actually in our pyjamas from midnight onwards though.

Which is your favourite Gary Walsh wedding photograph and why?

I love the picture of us walking back down the aisle together. I think it really captured the moment and we both look so happy.

Cheers, Gary…
