Every aspect of booking a children’s location session needs to be enjoyable and effortless – from the first contact, to collecting your wall portraits. The locations used can be personal to you and your family, or one of the many locations I’ve managed to find on my travels. My eyes are always open, and my notebook full of places, landmarks and grid references. Seasons change and the landscape changes too so I’ve got to be armed with all the relevant information before arranging a session meet up. If a location is going to make the grade, it has to first …

Carve out some good times…

At this time of year, I usually find myself (and I can’t be alone) grumping about Halloween and what a scam it has become, but I finally get it. In the busy hullabaloo of daily life we all need something to look forward to, whether it’s a summer holiday, a birthday celebration, Christmas time shenanigans, or the newly included Halloween – a time to dress up, dress the house, invite friends round for a frightfully good time. A young couple sitting face to face at their dining room table armed with a carving kit and a pumpkin each, they each …

Waiting For My Portrait Subjects To Arrive

This morning I arrived early for my portrait session.  I sat in the car listening to Jake Bugg(I’m going to see him on Saturday night so I’m cramming his latest CD).  I looked out across the village green at Hutton Rudby and this was the scene looking back at me.  I sat for a while longer and with 30 mins to spare decided to become a landscape photographer.  How could I have not taken this image!  I focused on the bench with an aperture of f5.6(I wanted the bench to stand out and the trees to be blurry). Golden colour …

I love children’s portrait sessions…

it’s the not knowing how the shoot will end, it’s the not knowing if the shoot will start, it’s the head full of creative ideas that I may never use, it’s the going with the flow of the child in my viewfinder, it’s the fun I have from the seat of my pants, it’s knowing from the off who is the boss(it’s not me), it’s the laughs and the uncertainty, it’s the ups and downs, I’m a children’s entertainer, I’m an amateur child psychologist, I’m a creative with a camera, I’m a joker and a composer…

I’m not a Ninja…

I’m 6ft tall with size 9 feet so I will definitely not be invisible on your wedding day, but what I will be is discreet, respectful and professional.  I know when to be amongst the action and when to be waiting on landings outside bedroom doors(not in a creepy way).  I know how weddings work and I continue to learn about people.  I can take shots over your shoulder and you won’t be aware that I’m there, I can also gather a group of family together and keep them entertained.  I will be watching and shooting images all day at …
